Course Description:Participants of this 40 hour course will investigate drug use in American society. The course will explore several factors in drug use including, history, trends, drug administration, cultural and political influences, consumption patterns, regulations, media influences, relationships to crime and violence, drug manufacturing and distribution, physical and behavioral effects, and health consequences. Addiction concepts and approaches, as well as prevention methods will be discussed. This course will provide latest data on alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, with Indiana trends emphasized.
Presenters:Lectures will be presented by Indiana Prevention Resource Center faculty and staff. The course will include guest speakers and adjunct presenters. A community panel of prevention and treatment professionals and well as a recovery panel and speakers will be incorporated.
Who should attend: This course is appropriate for anyone who wants to develop an understanding of drug use and/or increase current knowledge. Individuals from all backgrounds and professions are invited to register.
This course is approved by the Indiana Association of Prevention Professionals (IAPP) to satisfy the drug course requirement for the Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) designation.
Fee: The registration fee is $395 and must be paid prior to the start of the course
Course Structure:A combination of PowerPoint presentations, digital
Materials:PowerPoint handouts, copies of research studies and articles, other resources, and materials will be provided.
CEUs: Up to 40 CEUs will be offered for Addiction Counselors, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Social Workers
Up to 20 CRUs will be offered by the Indiana Department of Education
Up to 40 CEUs will be offered for Certified Health Education Specialists
Each participant who attends the course will receive a completion certificate to submit for other CEUs not listed.
Evaluation: Participants will be given the opportunity to evaluate the course via anonymous survey.
Attendance and Cancellation Policy: To receive a completion certificate, participants must attend the full 40 hour course. Participants who cannot attend the course must cancel by (will provide) and pay a cancellation fee of $50.
Logistics: The training location will be in Bloomington, Indiana. Specific location will be provided as the date approaches. Additionally, parking information and a map will be provided to those who register. Food and drink: Light refreshments and snacks will be served. A lunch break will be provided each day. |

The annual survey of alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) use by children and adolescents in the state of Indiana is coordinated by IPRC.
A total of 5,788 students from 9 Indiana colleges participated in the Indiana College Substance Use Survey conducted in Spring 2011.
